Welcome to Clarkson, NY

Overview

The Town of Clarkson covers over thirty square miles. This rural area offers a great deal of small town charm and wide-open spaces. There’s a strong sense of community here, strengthened by a variety of recreational and leisure activities which draw residents together frequently. Clarkson is steeped in history. It served as a major stagecoach stop for those heading to the Niagara Frontier before the completion of the Erie Canal. Travelers would spend time in what is now known as the hamlet of Clarkson Corners, along Ridge Road (Rt. 104). The region is convenient to all that the City of Rochester has to offer, and yet gives one the feeling of being completely removed from the cares of urban living.

Who Lives Here

You’ll find that residents here appreciate natural beauty, plenty of land to sprawl out on, and the sense of being away from it all. Many homes have multiple acres attached, allowing for expansive yards and relaxing views.

Essentials

With a major college located just a few moments away (SUNY Brockport), a wealth of concerts, dance, art, theatre and educational activities are always at hand locally; along with eateries, bookstores, museums, and more.

Recreation & Entertainment

The town of Clarkson is intricately entangled with Sweden and Brockport in terms of social activities and services. Its close proximity to these two areas and the intermixing of recreational programs forms a wide network of resources to draw upon, including the vast community of SUNY Brockport.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 104 is the main highway to and from Clarkson, taking residents smoothly into Rochester, just 20 miles away; or in the opposite direction, to Niagara Falls. At the west end of town is Rt. 272; and Rt. 19 (Lake Rd.) runs through town, a designated NYS Bicycle Route.

Pros & Cons

For those who love being out in the country, Clarkson offers the perfect spot to settle down. It is far enough out to provide a laid back atmosphere where one knows their neighbors and life is easy. Residents do need to use a car for most activities, including having dinner out or catching a movie. Fortunately, the nearest Wegmans or largest shopping center is in Brockport, just a few minutes away.
