Welcome to Hamlin, NY

Overview

Hamlin prides itself on many things - its natural beauty, country atmosphere, friendly people and convenience to many of Monroe County's top attractions. Hamlin Beach State Park is a remarkably lovely area on the shores of Lake Ontario; as is Bluff Beach. There are, in fact, several beachside areas where residents can enjoy all the beauty of our Great Lake - Sandy Harbor, Troutburg, Shore Acres and Onteo. Many homes in these areas are one-of-a-kind, with private beaches and several acres attached. In addition to the waterfront region, the heart of Hamlin has always been in its farm land, and the region still maintains its rural character despite the newly development areas where homes are, for the most part, reasonably priced and feature large, manicured lawns.

Who Lives Here

Residents of Hamlin are, by the very nature of the area, folks who love the great outdoors. It is the wide-open spaces that draw them to the area, the shores of Lake Ontario, the farm stands, the sight of children fishing in local creeks. Hamlin is served by three public school districts - Brockport Central, Hilton Central and Kendal Central; each of which provide excellent educational experiences for youngsters.

Essentials

Hamlin does not provide a great deal of shopping or entertainment opportunities; but the town is close to the suburbs of Greece, Gates and Chili as well as to the City of Rochester where residents can find everything they need. Commute time to the services and cultural/dining regions of Monroe County is generally 15 to 30 minutes or less.

Recreation & Entertainment

Due to the rural atmosphere here, Mother Nature provides the central attraction for locals. Sandy Creek is stocked annually with trout and salmon, there are marinas and yacht clubs, a public boat launch, beaches, and plenty of park land to explore in all seasons.

Transportation & Traffic

With Ridge Road (Rt. 104) close nearby, Lake Ontario State Parkway and Lake Road are the main roads through town. Brick School House Road, Hamlin Center Road, Walker Road, and Walker Lake Ontario Road also crisscross the area. Generally speaking, traffic is not a major concern to residents in this rural area.

Pros & Cons

Many who reside here must drive into the City of Rochester for employment, but the lure of living in a region surrounded by farmland and the beauty of Lake Ontario continues to extend suburbia into Hamlin. Residents cling to the natural beauty and laid-back way of life here, enjoying every minute of it.
