Welcome to Bennington, NY


Overview

The town of Bennington is in the northwest corner of Wyoming County, bordered to the north by Erie and Genesee counties, to the east by Attica, to the south by Sheldon, and to the west by Erie County. Bennington includes the hamlets of Bennington Center, Cowlesville, and Folsomdale. Bennington offers plenty of outdoor activities, such as fishing and hunting, golf, camping and hiking. The town is the largest geographically in Wyoming County.


Essentials

For groceries, residents here take a short drive to Attica, which has a Top’s Friendly Markets supermarket. Batavia, a bustling city about 18 miles northeast of Bennington, has all kinds of retail shopping, such as Walmart, Target, J.C. Penney and Sears. Marilla Country Store, which offers unique shopping options, is just 10 miles west. Students in Bennington attend the Attica Central School District. 



Recreation & Entertainment

Darien Lake Theme Park, which has the largest amusement park in New York state, is only seven miles north. Darien Lake Performing Arts Center hosts national musical acts throughout the summer. Darien Lake State Park has camping and other outdoor activities. Bennington Lanes is a bowling center with a bar and restaurant. Just east of Bennington, the annual Attica Rodeo is held every August at the rodeo grounds, and includes bull riding, calf roping, barrel racing and other events. Additional rodeo events are held all summer long. 



Transportation & Traffic

Route 77, going north-south, and Route 354 (Clinton Street) cross the town. Route 98 passes through the southeast corner of Bennington.



Pros & Cons

This is a large town with plenty of wide-open space for hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. Darien Lake, with its enormously popular amusement park and performing arts center, is just minutes away. The city of Batavia is a quick drive north. The Attica Correctional Facility in neighboring Attica is a major employer in the area.
