Welcome to Castile, NY


Overview

The town of Castile is on the eastern edge of Wyoming County, and includes the village of Castile and the hamlets of Castile Center, Fairview, Silver Lake and Sowerby Corners. Castile is bordered to the north by Perry, to the east by Livingston County, to the south by Genesee Falls, and to the west by Gainesville. Much of Letchworth State Park, dubbed the “Grand Canyon of the east,” is in Castile. The park is 17 miles long and has a 600-foot-deep gorge formed by the Genesee River.


Essentials

Residents here shop for groceries in nearby Warsaw, where there’s a Top’s Friendly Markets store, a Save-a-Lot grocery and Lantz’s Bulk Foods. To the north in Perry is the Perry Food Market-IGA. A bit further northeast, you’ll find a Wegman’s supermarket in Geneseo, Livingston County. For most retail shopping, residents head to Warsaw, which has a Walmart and other stores.  



Recreation & Entertainment

Letchworth State Park is the biggest attraction, popular year-long for its exquisite scenery, including waterfalls and trails. More than a million visitors from throughout the world head to the park annually for activities such as hot-air ballooning, white-water rafting, picnics, horseback riding and hunting and fishing. The park has swimming pools, cabins and campsites, and the well-known Glen Iris Inn. Several annual events are held at Letchworth, including a blues, bikes and barbecue festival; an arts festival; a Civil War re-enactment; and Native American Heritage Days. 



Transportation & Traffic

Route 39 runs north-south through the heart of Castile. Route 20A, which goes east-west, is just north of town. Route 19 and 19A are just west of Castile..

This is the place to be if you love the wide-open, breathtaking scenery and nature of Letchworth State Park.
