Overview Genesee Falls is in the southeastern corner of Wyoming County, bordered to the north by Castile; to the east by the Genesee River and the town of Portage, Livingston County; to the south by Allegany County; and to the west by Pike. This small town has fewer than 500 residents, with the hamlet of Portageville, on Route 19A, the only community in town. The south end of gigantic Letchworth State Park is in Genesee Falls. Local Museums/Landmarks Letchworth State Park is the biggest attraction in Wyoming County, and the south end of the park is in Genesee Falls. The William Pryor Letchworth Museum is within the park. The Castile Historical Society and Museum is just north, in Castile. The First Universalist Church of Portageville is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Essentials Residents here shop for groceries in nearby Warsaw, where there’s a Top’s Friendly Markets store, a Save-a-Lot grocery and Lantz’s Bulk Foods. To the north in Perry is the Perry Food Market-IGA. A bit further northeast, you’ll find a Wegman’s supermarket is in Geneseo, Livingston County. For most retail shopping, residents head to Warsaw, which has a Walmart and other stores. The Cordelia A. Greene Library on Main Street serves residents who live in Genesee Falls; to the west is the Pike Library, at 65 Main St. in Pike. The Letchworth Central School District, based in Gainesville, covers the town of Genesee Falls and most other towns in southeastern Wyoming County. The regional hospital is Wyoming County Community Hospital, a short drive northwest in Warsaw.

The park has swimming pools, cabins and campsites, and the well-known Glen Iris Inn. Several annual events are held at Letchworth, including a blues, bikes and barbecue festival; an arts festival; a Civil War re-enactment; and Native American Heritage Days. The Portageville Chapel is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to “creating a place of rest and renewal” for professional organists, with a private rehearsal facility.
