Welcome to Middlebury, NY

Overview

The town of Middlebury is on the northern border of Wyoming County and includes the village of Wyoming and several small hamlets. Middlebury is bordered to the north by Genesee County; to the east by Covington and Perry; to the south by Warsaw; and to the west by Attica.

Essentials

For grocery shopping, Top’s Friendly Markets stores can be found just west of Middlebury in Attica and just south, in Warsaw. The village of Wyoming has a smaller grocery store, Dourie’s Shop Wise, and Warsaw also has Save-a-Lot and Lantz’s Bulk Foods. Wyoming’s “Gaslight Village” has plenty of boutique shopping. For retail, residents head to Walmart in Warsaw or, a bit further north, to Batavia, which has Target, Sears, J.C. Penney and Walmart.

Recreation & Entertainment

Gaslight Village and its boutique shops attract people from all over. The AppleUmpkin Festival, an arts and crafts festival held in the fall, is a popular event. Just west of Middlebury is the popular Attica Rodeo. Carlton Hill in the hamlet of Dale has 2,500 acres and is popular for bird watching, camping, cross-country skiing, and hunting and fishing. The Coonley Ward Artist Community is on Route 19. The Yellow Dandelion Art Gallery is in the Wyoming Village Hall. Darien Lake Theme Park, the largest amusement park in New York, is only about 25 miles northwest of Middlebury.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 19 runs north-south through Middlebury. Route 20 is just north of town, and Route 238 is a short drive west.

Pros & Cons

The village of Wyoming’s historic and quaint “Gaslight Village” is a big draw. In Middlebury, it’s a quick drive south to Warsaw (the county seat) and a short drive west to Attica, both of which have entertainment and shopping choices. Middlebury’s location on the northern border of the county means Batavia, the largest municipality in the region, is only 20 miles north.
