Overview

The small town of Orangeville is in central Wyoming County, bordered to the north by Attica, to the east by Warsaw, to the south by Wethersfield and to the west by Sheldon. Orangeville includes five hamlets: Dutch Flats, Halls Corners, Johnsonburg, Orangeville Center and Quaker Town. The population is only about 1,300, and a resident group has organized to preserve the area’s rural beauty and character. Orangeville has lovely, wide-open spaces and is close to attractions in Warsaw, Varysburg and Attica.


Essentials

For grocery shopping, residents here head east to Warsaw, where there’s a Top’s Friendly Markets store, a Save-a-Lot store and Lantz’s Bulk Foods. Attica, 10 miles north, also has a Top’s store. For retail, shoppers go to Walmart in Warsaw or, a bit further to the north, to Batavia, which has a Walmart, Kmart, Sears and Target. Libraries serving the Orangeville area include the Warsaw Public Library and the Stevens Memorial Public Library in Attica. The Attica Central School District serves Orangeville residents. The regional hospital is Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.



Recreation & Entertainment

Outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and hiking are popular here. Nearby attractions can be found in Varysburg, which is only three miles southeast of Orangeville. There, you’ll find Hidden Valley Animal Adventure, which has a 60-minute guided tour through a wild-game safari park and a restaurant. Also in Varysburg is the Byrncliff Resort & Conference Center, a year-round ski resort which has a golf course, an outdoor pool and miniature golf course, as well as live entertainment. The Darien Lake amusement park is only 17 miles northwest of Orangeville.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 20A runs east-west directly through the heart of Orangeville. Route 98, which goes north-south, is just west of town and Route 238, another north-south road, is on the eastern edge of town.



Pros & Cons

This is a small, wide-open town which residents are determined to keep rural. There are few attractions here, but Orangeville’s location means it’s not far from places like Warsaw, Attica and Varysburg.
