Welcome to Ellington, NY

Overview

Ellington is a lightly populated town (about 1,600 residents) on the eastern edge of Chautauqua County, not to be confused with the larger Ellicott, which is just southwest of the town. Ellington is bordered to the north by Cherry Creek, to the east by Cattaraugus County (town of Conewango), to the south by Poland and to the west by Gerry. This is a largely rural area, but not far from busy Jamestown. Ellington has no village but has five hamlets.



Essentials

Most shopping needs are just a quick drive from Ellington. For grocery shopping, the town of Randolph in Cattaraugus County is only 10 miles east and has a Tops Friendly Markets. Most of the area’s shopping options are in Jamestown, which has a Wegmans supermarket, two Tops Friendly Markets stores and smaller shops like Save-a-Lot. Chautauqua Mall, 18 miles southwest of Ellington in the village of Lakewood, has stores including JC Penney and Sears as well as a movie-theater multiplex.



Recreation & Entertainment

With this being a rural community, most of the things to do here are outdoor activities like camping, fishing and hiking. The town hosts the well-known annual Ellington Town Picnic every summer, with a woodcutting contest, music, food and fireworks and more. Neighboring Gerry holds an annual rodeo.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 62 passes east-to-south through Ellington and Route 83 passes through the northeastern part of town.
